| A Reason for Government #11 by Joseph Prescia Our government of the United States was not established to promote heathen practices. One of the reasons it was designed was to manage over the actions of its people with a godly moral code. Webster’s says that government is “the exercise of authority over a state, district...etc.” The basis upon which our government was founded is the Bible. Our government was not formed to rule over the beliefs of its people, but to manage or control their actions. For instance, it is wrong to steal and you will pay for that wrong-doing. But on the other hand, it is not wrong to believe that it’s OK to steal. The actions are what the government desires to control. It’s wrong to rape. It is not wrong to believe rape is OK. Government is not supposed to get involved until a wrong action is committed. It’s OK to believe that you can lie. But when under oath there are penalties to pay for perjury, the act. On the other hand, political correctness wrongly attempts to punish your thoughts; bigotry, hatred, etc. Political correctness so often ignores free speech. To say that we live in a society that you can do whatever you want is entirely erroneous. A list of wrongs and their penalties have been established. Government’s duty is to manage this list. The Christian Bible was instrumental in the original formation of this list. An honest look at our history will reveal that approximately 225 years ago America was founded by godly Christian men with a desire to promote God’s ways. A list of wrongs and their penalties came from what the Bible prescribed as unacceptable behavior. Thoughts and beliefs are not to be ruled over and punished for but actions are. Robert C. Winthrop (1809-1894), speaker of the 13th Congress once said, “Men must necessarily be controlled, either by a power within them, or by a power without them; either by the Word of God, or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible, or by the bayonet.” America continues to weaken the laws and penalties originally established by our government. More recently it’s under the guise of freedom to do what you want. But this wrong label that is erroneously promoted as freedom of speech is jeopardizing society into its own bondage. For instance, sodomy is unacceptable behavior to many Americans. At one time all 50 states had laws against such action. Are we obliged to change with the times? Or it that American moral standards have decayed? Today, public classrooms are teaching same sex sickness as a free and alternative lifestyle. Citizens who want a higher standard are going elsewhere for education. Parents are moving their children out of the public schools and into home schools which are gaining popularity. The public school system is inviting this bondage because of its own immoral conduct. True freedom is gained when moral conduct goes up. A society that’s unchecked and undisciplined is a society that’s in bondage to its own vices. Our government was not established to promote heathenism. One of the reasons it was established was to promote a good moral conduct that originated from God’s holy Word, the Bible. This is the best standard to live by because God created us and knows what is best for His creation. |
