| Commitment #13 by Joseph Prescia As individual commitment goes down evil seems to spring up. When we stop saying what we mean, otherwise known as telling the truth, lawyers apparently get more involved. The more lawyers that get involved, the more confusion and the Bible says that where there’s confusion there’s every evil work. If we meant what we said there would be no reason for written contracts. Webster’s says that “commitment” is “a pledge or promise to do something.” When we fail to make good on our word we are no longer trusted. And of all people we ask to help us in this endeavor to correct a wrong it’s lawyers. Lawyers are often thought of as car salesmen. If there was ever someone that you did not trust to get to the bottom of the truth, it’s a car salesman. So why would you call a lawyer? According to the 2000 US Census unmarried households are on the rise by 72% in just one decade. Commitment is on the decline. It appears that people are becoming more afraid to tie commitment to the Bible’s standard. One of the reason’s is that so many don’t even know what standard the Word of God sets. The remainder are very open God-rejecters and do not want to be told what to do by anyone, including God, even if it means the best for them and their spouse. Marriage is on the decline because commitment to a godly standard is on the decline. I guess you can expect lawyers to be in business for quite some time as long as Americans continue to reject the standard of the written Word of God. You can expect written contracts to be on the rise as people who know not God become more and more untrustworthy. If fact, figures for the unmarried will continue to climb. Homosexuality and lesbianism will continue to become more popular. Television programming will get worse. Hollywood’s war on morality will be won battle by battle. The liberal socialist’s agenda will cause the conservatives to continue to compromise all because of rejection of the highest standard available. If people reject the Word of God, standards will decline. The best standard is commitment to God and His Word. When man rejects God, he turns to himself for answers. The psychologists and politicians become his new gods. Real men and women are not afraid to subject themselves to the Creator of the heavens and the earth. Real men and women are not afraid of commitment. What God says, He does. He says “I am the Lord, I change not” (Malachi 3:6). God has committed Himself to His Word. “God is not a man that He should lie” (Numbers 23:19). God IS to be trusted. He alone is man’s hope for turning the downward trend upwards so that the greatest country on earth can last much longer than the selfish Roman Empire did. Psalm 32:8 The Lord will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; He will counsel you and watch over you. |
