Able to Think for Yourself?   #15
by Joseph Prescia

When a government has been given the right to think instead of it’s citizens thinking for themselves those citizens become almost worthless. For instance, when grandma gets old and we don’t want to deal with her anymore we vote for higher taxes for the elderly so the government can “take care of her.” We were not thinking with a loving, giving heart when we did this because our motivation was selfishness. We wanted to have more time to do what we want to do rather than to love her with individual attention and care. We have just turned over another freedom to the government rather than taking the time to think with a loving heart.

When we hear of someone going hungry we would rather vote for higher taxes again to feed that individual (food stamps, welfare, etc.) instead of finding out why they are in this particular situation. They could be trained to stand on their own two feet. The socialists say that they don’t have time to “deal with it” so they would rather have the government feed them fish instead of teaching them to fish for themselves. Again we’ve taken thinking with a loving heart out of the equation.

Russians have tried to make it in our country but because they were accustomed to their Russian government thinking for their citizens and providing their every need, their failure rate in our FREE America is quite high. They just can’t handle all the decision making. So they return to Russia where they don’t have to think so much.

When the children of Israel were in bondage to Egypt as slaves Moses and God were able to persuade them to follow Moses. That is until they got into the wilderness where supplying their need was no longer so obvious. Rather than trust God to supply their need, rather than to call on God in prayer, rather than to expect deliverance again and again, they were ready to give up and go back to Egypt, back into slavery where they didn’t have to think for themselves. American citizens have chosen slavery to the government just like they did.

Fear causes us to do things that are second best. When we don’t take the time to think things through lovingly, we are not making the wisest decisions. All decisions could be made in light of the scriptures. But if we don’t have time, or should I say, if we don’t MAKE time to know what the scriptures say, we will never know what motivated our Founding Fathers to first come to America and establish a nation, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Those of us who can think for ourselves know why they came here and it’s up to us to pray and fight for the liberty we’ve been handed so easily
