What’s your Motivation? #3 by Joseph Prescia
What is it that motivates a country and a congress to seek government to provide for them? American citizens frequently elect officials that promise to give them prescription drugs, Social Security, guaranteed pay when one doesn’t work, etc. Our nation continues to be persuaded by those who promise “handouts.” What’s the motivation to spend money on situations that don’t encourage productivity? It can only be fear. That’s right. Americans are so afraid that they can’t make it on their own so they rely upon government to supply or supplement. It’s really a cowardly way to live!
Do you think that fear motivated the Pilgrims to come to America? Do you think fear motivated the fight against England in 1776 to remain a free and independent nation? Those who fought for our country were courageous. They would have laughed at the ideas that are currently pawned off as government programs for the so-called needy. Back then they had a work ethic that was solid. Show me a man that works hard and I’ll show you a man that you can trust. It’s the idle ones you need to be suspicious of. Our government promotes them with free handouts. They don’t even require the recipients to work for the money. We are promoting a lazy society.
The answers are not found in whether you are a Democrat or Republican. The true question is whether you are a coward or courageous. If government is your god, then by God’s standard you are a coward. If God and His Word is your standard, if you rely upon Him to supply your need, then you are most courageous because nothing else is your god. It takes courage to trust God. The walls of Jericho came crashing down because the children of the nation of Israel trusted God at His Word. They were not afraid to work with and for God. Any man or woman can decide to strengthen their relationship with the Almighty, but it takes time in the scriptures to trust a God of Spirit, Whom you can not see. Words from the scriptures encourage you to be fearless. He tells us in His Word that He will supply our every need, that we can do all things through Christ Jesus, that we are more than conquerors in every situation, that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Love is the motivation from God and He tells us in His Word that “perfect love casts out fear.” So what are you waiting for? What’s your motivation? Whom do you trust to help meet your need: Government or God? |
