America is Founded Upon Biblical Truths   #5
by Joseph Prescia

It was not religious persecution that primarily motivated the Pilgrims to set sail on the Mayflower. There is substantial evidence that this group had an intense yearning for fellowship with God. God and His Word was their primary motivation. Religious persecution was secondary and it was what they wanted to avoid. Their primary motivation was to advance the “
Christian Faith.” America would prove to be the hallow ground upon which they were spiritually guided.

The day they landed at Cape-Cod, November 11th, 1620 with 102 passengers of men, women and children was the same day that the Mayflower Compact was signed. Forty-one of their men, including, John Carver, William Bradford and Edward Winslow had their names signed to this Christian-based document for the glory of God. The following are excerpts from this special occasion:

In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten...Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith...a Voyage to plant the first Colony in the northern parts of Virginia; Do by these Presents, solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God and one another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil Body Politik, for our better Ordering and Preservation, and Furtherance of the Ends aforesaid...In witness...at Cape-Cod the eleventh of November, 1620.”

Just over twenty-two years later, on May 19th, 1643, The Articles of Confederation of the United Colonies of New England was agreed upon. The following is an excerpt from that document:

Whereas we all came into these parts of America with one and the same end and aim, namely, to advance the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ and to enjoy the liberties of the Gospel in purity with peace; and whereas in our settling (by a wise providence of God)...we are further dispersed upon the sea coasts and rivers...be called by the name of the United Colonies of New England.

No where in those documents can you find a retaliation against England as their primary motivation from religious persecution. They even named themselves the “
United Colonies of New England.” You can see very clearly that their motivation was for God and the advancement of the “Christian Faith” first. You can not truly separate “church and state” because whatever is ingrained in the heart of a person will manifest itself in how they govern, whether it’s godly or socialistic. Revisionists have wanted to rewrite our Christian history. They have wanted to ignore God, put Him in a box and thereby giving their intellectual socialism it’s desired course. But we can not let that happen because it’s truth that sets men and women free. Jesus Christ is the foundation upon which the Pilgrims were inspired to set sail. They said that with their own words and signed a document for future generations to see. Our nation was founded upon Biblical truths. As a result, it’s our obligation to continue in the direction that our Founding Fathers established. May God continue to bless America because of those who have chosen to follow Him and share the written Word of God.
