Cloning   #84
By Joseph Prescia

The first cloned mammal, Dolly the sheep, had to be put to death in February (2003) at age 6 due to severe lung problems. Sheep normally live to 12 years of age. It took 247 attempts to produce her. God formed the first human by simply speaking it into being.

Genesis 1:26a, 2:7 And God said, Let us make man in our image... And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (KJV)

God copied the first man in His image, which is spirit. Man eventually lost spirit in the Garden because of his refusal to obey God and became mere body and soul. But man continues to reproduce flesh and blood based on God’s original creation. Cloning is not an exact duplicate of an original. You can clone but not make an exact copy. According to Prof. Robert Plumin of King’s College London; a clone is “
someone...similar to the clone, but by no means identical.” If man could exactly duplicate that which God originated from dust, then the problems of cloning would disappear. Some clones have become “deformed fetuses...oversized organs...born dead...died after being born, some twice as large as they should have been” (Washington Post.com). There’s even concern with cloning that the “original genetic blueprint (could) eventually wear out.” Yet when God first formed mankind we continue to reproduce successfully after 6000 years.

While it’s obviously true that humans get sick and die, the physical problems of human sickness and disease are due to sin and not to God. It may not be each individual sin related to each individual sickness but sin is responsible for mankind’s physical failures as a whole. Disobedience to God has consequences. Still though, God provided a loving way for all to redeem frail human bodies and to regain a new spiritual body with eternal life through the accomplishments of Jesus Christ.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (KJV)

Animals don’t have the ability to believe the Scriptures and obtain holy spirit; therefore they cannot live eternally like humans can. We will not meet Dolly the sheep in heaven, nor any other animal for that matter. God gave mankind dominion over the animal kingdom (Genesis 1:26). The animals are here for our enjoyment while upon earth. But when Christ returns we will have the joy of spending eternity with God and His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, in our new spiritual bodies (I Corinthians 15).

As long as man doesn’t tamper with God’s original blueprint, then all is well. But as soon as man decides to help God along in any endeavor and try to perfect that which God started, like Hitler tried, then major problems crop up. The best advice is to seek the will of God from Scripture to be assured that we are headed in the right direction.
