| A Reliable God
By Joseph Prescia The things of this world are not reliable. You can spend a lot of money on things and still be very disappointed because they don’t work when you need them to. They fail. They let you down. They are not reliable. The people behind the things of this world are not reliable. They cannot be trusted. They let you down. God is reliable. He is steadfast. God is our refuge. We can trust Him at His Word. He is always there to help us. Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. God reminds us that He will not leave or forsake us because we need to hear this. He says it in manifestations because we need to hear it. We have a lifetime of things and people of this world letting us down. God reminds us that He is reliable. He never leaves us nor does He forsake us. Since He is always there, what does He do when He’s there? What does He do that is supposed to comfort us when He says this? Some places in the Word where it says that “God is”: Genesis 21:22 And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest: Here, someone else noticed that God was with Abraham. Isn’t it comforting when someone else notices that God is with you? It wasn’t that God tagged along and bothered Abraham. Abraham invited God everywhere. That’s why he was with him in all that he did. Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; Another thing that God is is faithful. You can rely on Him. He is God and He is faithful. Deuteronomy 10:17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: God is God of gods. There’s no one bigger. He is mighty. He’s a powerful God. Joshua 23:3 And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you. Joshua reminds the elders here that God fights for you. Do you need someone to take care of a battle for you? 2 Samuel 22:2-3 And he (David) said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. God is my rock. God is my fortress. God is my deliverer. God is my shield. God is my refuge. God is my savior. Psalm 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. These are the things that God is. He never leaves us nor does He ever forsake us. So when He’s around, this is what He does. Psalm 99:9 Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy. Here it says that God is holy. In John it says God is spirit. John 3:33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. God is true. Aren’t these characteristics of a God that you want to be around. Who would want any other god? People like to put labels on other people. “This person is nice. That guy is a party animal. Her mom is mean.” God is true. God is holy. God is merciful, gracious. God is my rock. God is mighty. God is faithful. We don’t let people talk bad about our God. Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: God doesn’t pick and choose. He doesn’t give you a higher place in the club. 1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. Isn’t that comforting to know that our God cannot be blamed for Katrina, tornados, floods, death and destruction? Our God is light and in Him is NO darkness at all. That word “no” in the Greek means, “no, not one, not even one.” He has no not one, not even one darkness at all. 1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. God is love. The nature of love is to give again and again and again. That is God. God is a rock. God is a refuge. God is mighty. God is faithful. These are great things to remember that God is. In Malachi it says that He’s the Lord and he changes not. God is dependable. God is reliable. Webster’s defines “reliable” as: 1 : suitable or fit to be relied on : DEPENDABLE 2 : giving the same result on successive trials God is reliable. He does not betray. He does not desert. He’s loyal, reliable. How many things in this world are that sure? Only God is. God is steadfast. He’s unwavering in His allegiance and conviction. He’s resolute. He has a firm determination to a purpose. God is reliable. He is faithful. When he makes a contract, He has an unswerving adherence to it. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. God can be relied upon. We can trust Him. He is faithful. If He says it, he will do it. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. The Lord God can establish you and keep you from evil. He’s faithful to do that. Jesus Christ is also called faithful. Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. The Word of God is faithful. Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. The Bible promotes the faithfulness of God. It transfers His heart to the pages of the bible. Christ spoke of this. Christ promoted that faithfulness and said, “It is written.” Then that same bible can produce faithful people. The Bible is written to the faithful. Ephesians 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: Believers are faithful. We adhere to the standard. We are unmovable. We are locked in. Nothing shakes us because we are in the family. We’re in the inner circle. Our nature is God’s nature. 2 Peter 1:4-8 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. This new nature comes from God. That’s what he is all about. God is faithful. God is virtuous. God is patient. God is kind. God is loving. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) God is reliable. His only begotten son is faithful, reliable. God’s Word is faithful. We are faithful in Christ Jesus. We’re in great company. We’re in the family. So many people have a desire to belong. We’ve got the best there is. We’re faithful right now! God backs us up. We KNOW God is going to be there because He says He will never leave us or forsake us because that’s who God is. When He says he will never leave nor forsake us what comes with that? If you are sick and in the hospital and call someone to be with you to be by your side, when that person gets there what’s comes with that individual? Are they just a warm body by your side or is there more? If they bring the power of God with them and know that it’s God in Christ in them then you have something. That individual would be the faithful in Christ Jesus. When God says he will never leave us nor forsake us what does he bring with Him? God is reliable. God is faithful. God is powerful. God is a refuge. God is a shield. God is gracious, merciful, loving, kind. He is a sun and shield. God is a rock. God is forgiving. God can be trusted to be there again and again. God never leaves nor forsakes us. Return to main page |
